Matthews Bagopi

Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.), Minerals Engineering, Camborne School of Mines, University of Exeter, UK

Matthews was appointed as the Acting CEO of Minergy Coal in September 2023 by the Minerals Development Mining Company (MDCB). He is a seasoned minerals engineer with over 30 years of extensive experience in technical development, operations management, and strategic leadership within the mining industry.  Before joining Minergy, Matthews was the Chief Technical Officer of the MDCB.

Matthews is a member of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration(SMME), the Southern African Coal Processing Society (SACPS), the Botswana Coal Forum, and an Associate of the Camborne School of Mines, ACSM.

Omphile Madimabe

A Fellow Member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), and a fellow member of the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants. Also completed Executive Development Programme (EDP) of the University of Stellenbosch.

Omphile is a seasoned chartered accountant who has been in the profession for 30 years, 23 of which are post his chartership. He is an alumnus of the University of Stellenbosch Business School’s Executive Development Programme (“EDP”).  Omphile has served the bulk of his work experience in the mining industry covering different mineral commodities (diamonds, base metals and coal). His mining background covers work for Debswana Diamond company, Tati Nickel Mining Company, a subsidiary of the global nickel major, Norilsk Nickel (listed in the Moscow Stock Exchange) nickel company, reporting to the international head of finance. His most recent role is as Finance Manager at Morupule Coal Mine (“MCM”), an underground and open-cast coal mining company. Omphile’s earlier experience in the mining includes the original equipment manufacturer (“OEM”) environment, affording him the dual and rare perspectives of the mining industry’s supplier and client sides.

Leutlwetse received his accounting qualifications from the University of Botswana and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. He is experienced in Botswana’s capital markets having worked with one of Botswana’s leading broking firms.

Cross Kgosidiile joined the board, effective 3 August 2020. He is an experienced company executive and board member, with more than two decades of experience across a range of sectors. Presently he is the Managing Director of the Botswana Development Corporation

He has held senior positions and been Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) of a range of well-known organisations in Botswana including Air Botswana, Botswana Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (CEO), and Botswana Power Corporation (CEO). His board and committee experience also spans well known Botswana companies and organisations including the Botswana Motor Vehicle Accident Fund, Botswana Building Society, Botswana Railways, KYS Investments, Botswana Stock Exchange listed Prime Time Property Holdings, JTTM Property Holdings, and Stanbic Bank Botswana.

Mr. Matome Tsholetsa Malema was appointed to the Minergy Limited Board on 25 September 2023. He currently holds the position of CEO of the Minerals Development Company Botswana (“MDCB”). He is a Mining and Metals Executive with over 35 years of experience. This includes board experience at non-executive chairman level in state owned entities and industry experience in base metals, diamonds, and the original equipment manufacturer (Mining Services and Solutions) space in Botswana, such as BCL Limited, Debswana Diamond Company (a De Beers Group Company), Lucara Diamond Corporation, Joyglobal Inc./Komatsu Mining Corp, and Komatsu Limited. At these companies, Matome has fulfilled various roles such as Project Metallurgist, Process Plant Manager, Metallurgical Manager, Assistant General Manager, General Manager and Director – Surface Mining and Country Manager. Matome is also a board member of the De Beers Group and a member of its Sustainability Committee.

A geologist with more than two decades of experience in the mining industry, with senior management positions in both public and private companies. Registered with SACNASP and a member of the GSSA. Previously held positions with Falconbridge, Harmony, Platmin (now Sedibelo Platinum), and Council for Geoscience. Co-founding member of Minergy.
